Bogalusa, a bastion of creationism?

From the Daily Kingfish comes the report of Senate Bill 651 filed by Ben Nevers D – Bogalusa, establishing creationism in public schools

* Educational authorities in Louisiana should “assist teachers to find more effective ways to present the science curriculum where it addresses scientific controversies.”

* Biological evolution, global warming and other topics “can cause controversy” in public school classrooms and may confuse teachers on how they should be taught.

* Teachers and others should encourage students to tackle different views on such topics, including scientific strengths and weaknesses of each theory.

God love that Louisiana Family Forum for enriching the lives of Louisiana Public School students, while saving their souls…

And onto saving the brains of motorcyclists, House Speaker Jim Tucker goes on the record that repeal of the state motorcycle helmet law is absurd

Associated Press – April 1, 2008 9:34 PM ET

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) – House Speaker Jim Tucker was direct today about his feelings toward attempts to repeal the state’s motorcycle helmet requirement. He says he thinks repealing it is crazy and he’s not in favor of the idea.

Senator Eric LaFleur, of Ville Platte, has filed two bills seeking to repeal the helmet requirement for adults: one that would repeal the mandate for anyone 18 years old or older, and another that would get rid of the requirement for riders 21 or older.

The proposals are generating opposition from safety groups who say helmets are needed to protect motorcyclists from head injuries in accidents.

Supporters of repeal say adult motorcyclists should be free to decide about helmet use. Governor Bobby Jindal supports a repeal, saying he backs an adult’s right to choose whether to wear a helmet or not.
