chapter 15 – official letter

Dear XXX

We are writing to let you know that Allstate has been working with the Louisiana Department of Insurance and has some important news concerning your wind and hail coverage which we hope you will be pleased to hear.

Because you have continuously maintained homeowners’ coverage on the same property (at the same address) for more than three years with the Allstate companies, we are now able to offer you an opportunity to purchase wind and hail coverage from Allstate XXX. You may recall your homeowners’ policy had been previously renewed without wind and hail coverage or you have recently received notice that this coverage will be removed from your current policy as a result of the company’s efforts to find solutions to manage exposure to catastrophic risk in Louisiana. Allstate recently announced it would offer wind and hail coverage back to a few hundred customers. We have determined your policy is included in that group should you choose to receive the offer.

You will have until May 30, 2008, to contact your Allstate agent if you are interested in this offer to purchase wind and hail coverage. If you do not have an agent, you may call 1-800-Allstate and speak to a representative.

Should you choose to purchase the wind and hail protection, please keep in mind that because you are adding coverage to your policy you will see an increase in premium. You should also be aware that should you choose to purchase this coverage we will be adding a mandatory five percent (5%) hurricane deductible to your policy, which will be in addition to any other deductibles currently applicable to your policy…

…We apologize for any inconvenience. Allstate is a responsible company that has had to make very difficult decisions in order to remain in areas of the country prone to infrequent, but devastating natural catastrophes that present serious risks to consumers, insurers and the economy.

Thank you for choosing Allstate XXX to help handle your insurance needs. We look forward to hearing from you and working with you on this matter. You ARE a valued customer and we appreciate your business.

Sincerely…

  1. Oh, for crying out loud. Schmucks.

So I guess that Allstate “is” a responsible company? Their old customers here don’t see it that way.

    Spare me…
