somebody dropped the ball

Illegal aliens who were material witnesses to a murder in St. Tammany Parish sit in jail since May of 2007 to prevent them from being deported. This story broke a few weeks back in the Times Picayune, and for one reason or another, I did not post the initial report. But this story runs again in this morning’s Times Picayune, stating that three of the six detainees were released since their role as witnesses were not pertinent.

What is infuriating is that these migrant workers sat in jail in St. Tammany Parish languishing until someone who spoke Spanish could decipher the situation and sort it all out. It is truly pathetic that these men had to wait so long for redress. Someone had to feed these men everyday, let them in and out of their holding cells, why didn’t anyone try to expedite collection of their statements? Call in an interpreter for chrissakes, especially initially when they were brought to jail? That right here is nothing short of inhumane, and someone pathetically dropped the ball on this situation. St. Tammany parish, y’all got some ‘splainin to do…
