native sons

In the paper this morning, I read Maureen Dowd’s column “Sinking in a swamp full of Blackwater”. Ms. Dowd describes the chairman of Blackwater Erik Prince as “a former intern to the first President Bush and a former Navy Seal, is from a well-to-do and well-connected Republican family from Michigan”. Another fine example of the GOP machine pork funding and patronizing politically connected families, helping them become more wealthy (everyone read $1 BILLION Blackwater federal Iraq contract, hooray!!!). Sounds like the same swilling at the political trough that republicans so readily accuse Democrats of doing, except Democrats spend for the greater good and not for the selfish greedy few. Guess someone forgot to remind the “Christian valued” Blackwater proprietors that greed is one of those seven deadly sins.

Then I got to thinking – Michigan is the last place in the States I would expect Blackwater to originate. Michigan is also Roger Moore’s native land. His recent documentary “Sicko” and the policies he expounds blows the Blackwater Christianity stance out of the water. Comparing the two, which of these native sons would you choose to stand by – Erik/Cain or Roger/Abel? Which one has the greater good in mind versus the greedy good of self? I have never understood how right wing “Christian” values minded folks have such blatant disregard for the greed they perpetuate and their neglect of the rest of humanity.
